A return to winning ways
It was exactly what Tottenham needed. There's always a reactionary element among football fandom and some of those calling for a total rebuild at Spurs suddenly didn't have the patience for the very thing they called for, while ignoring the injury crisis that had forced Ange Postecoglou to hammer square pegs into round holes across the pitch.
The Australian's football needed a big win to showcase just what it is going to look like when the attack properly clicks and Sunday brought it with a performance against Newcastle that could have been even more convincing than the 4-1 scoreline suggested.
The football was beautiful, with flowing moves and nutmegs aplenty to delight the crowd as the Tottenham players grew in confidence and most importantly the system brought the goals it deserved.
As they did against West Ham, Postecoglou's men had 23 shots at goal, but this time they sent 12 on target, forcing Martin Dubravka into seven saves, while Brennan Johnson struck the woodwork twice and Pape Matar Sarr and Richarlison, both returning to the starting line-up, were inches away from adding to the scoreline.
Spurs and Newcastle have faced a similar injury hell in recent weeks but the ability for Postecoglou to make two changes with Richarlison and Sarr was pivotal during a packed week of fixtures.
