This was his moment. This was his chance for redemption. This was the opportunity to stake his claim again, to silence any doubters, to put the critics back in their place.
Until it wasn't.
Aaron Ramsdale was recalled to Arsenal's starting lineup for Saturday evening's visit of Brentford, with David Raya ineligible to face his parent side. It was the first time he'd been named in a Premier League XI since the reverse fixture when he nearly gifted the Bees a goal after losing his concentration when playing from the back.
He was let off the hook on that occasion, but not this time around.
Arsenal took a 19th-minute lead against Brentford thanks to a fine Declan Rice header and they seemed to be cruising to half-time, but they went into the break on level terms.
Ramsdale was cought in possession by Yoane Wissa, and the Bees forward blocked his clearance right back into the net. Out of nothing, Brentford were level, and Ramsdale was in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Brentford are LEVEL! ⚖️
A GIFT from Ramsdale and Wissa gladly accepts!
