Jurgen Klopp has been praised for his substitutions in Liverpool’ comeback win at Wolves.
The Reds made a sluggish start at Molineux and were fortunate enough to only have conceded once before the half-time break. Pedro Neto attempted to make the most of Liverpool’s makeshift backline, setting up Hwang Hee-chan’s opener, and forced Klopp into a rethink at the interval.
The introduction of Luis Diaz at Alexis Mac Allister’s expense saw Liverpool switch to a 4-4-2 formation and quickly draw level through Cody Gakpo. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott were also brought on during the half to freshen up the Reds, who needed two late goals to seal victory. Though Liverpool were forced to wait for their breakthrough, pundit Peter Schmeichel lauded Klopp’s ability to solve his side’s early problems.

“You also saw from that clip, how direct and how much more energy that Liverpool came out with in the second half,” the Manchester United icon said. “He (Klopp) must have had a big, big half-time talk. He was so unhappy in the first half. But they came out in the second and delivered.
“I don’t know what he told Mac Allister. ‘Go and sit on the naughty step?’ He was the first one out, so when Diaz was actually being prepared to come on, he was behind. You could see how unhappy he was. But it’s great managerial work. Every substitution he made worked.”
When asked, post-match, about his decision to change Mac Allister at half-time, Klopp admitted that the midfielder was grateful to take his place on the bench. The Argentine had started both World Cup qualifiers for his country
