Arsenal could have key advantage over Man City and Liverpool in Premier League title race

Much has been made of Arsenal’s goalscoring form in recent weeks as they are pushing both Liverpool and Manchester City hard in the three-way race for the Premier League title.

In their last six games, the Gunners have scored a total of 25 goals. That includes a 5-0 win over Burnley and a 6-0 victory against West Ham United.

The goalscoring shows no sign of slowing down as the season goes on. In their last outing Arsenal recorded a 4-1 win vs Newcastle United. Next, they face Sheffield United who have conceded 66 goals this season who have been beaten 5-0 twice in their last four games.

But it’s not just the sheer number of goals that Arsenal are scoring that has been impressive, it’s also the number that they have let in. In those same six games, Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded just three times.

If you dig deeper into the numbers then it becomes even more impressive and highlights a key advantage that Arsenal may have going into the next few weeks. As reported by The Athletic , since the start of 2023, Arsenal have conceded an xG (expected goals) of just 1.9 in their Premier League encounters.

That is more than three and a half times lower than Manchester City who have conceded 6.8 and significantly lower than Liverpool with ten. The stats are good reading for Arsenal.

The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League but are just one point behind last season’s treble winners Man City in second and just two behind current leaders Liverpool. It a small difference that would take just one slip-up by both teams for Arsenal to be able to take advantage.
