Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has cautioned Liverpool against seeking Jurgen Klopp's advice for his replacement.
Klopp announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season after nine years as boss, leaving plenty of time for the Reds to find a suitable replacement for him. Having completely transformed the club's fortunes, the Liverpool hierarchy may now seek advice from the German boss on what he feels they should do next...just like rivals Manchester United did after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
According to Wenger, this would be the wrong move. He recommends that Liverpool avoid enlisting Klopp's help as he said on beIN sports: "No, no. I don't think so, unless he becomes officially appointed by Liverpool as an advisor. You do your job and you let other people do their jobs. I think organisations work well when that is the case. Everybody does what they are responsible for. At least you know when it doesn't work, who to speak to."
He also revealed that Arsenal followed this exact protocol after his departure from the Emirates six years ago. On being asked if the Gunners involved him in their discussions, Wenger simply stated: "No."
Klopp has already said he doesn't want to be involved in picking his replacement. He trusts Liverpool's owners to find the perfect person for the job. He said: "No, why should I? It looks like I do all the work but I don't, I can't. That means all what we built in the last eight and half years is an incredibly strong structure behind the scenes so everything goes in the right direction," Klopp said last month.
