Arsene Wenger has given Liverpool some advice regarding Jurgen Klopp's departure. Klopp is set to leave Anfield after serving as manager for nine years, which has sent shockwaves through the club.
Finding a replacement for the German will be arguably one of the most important decisions in recent Liverpool history, considering the significant impact Klopp has made since his arrival on Merseyside. Given his success at the club, Liverpool might consider asking for his input on his successor.
However, Wenger, who was Arsenal's manager for over 20 years, thinks this would be a mistake. He suggests that Liverpool should not involve Klopp in the process of finding a new boss, similar to how he wasn't involved in the hiring of a new manager after he left Arsenal.
When asked by beIN Sports if Klopp's advice should be taken into account, Wenger responded with a firm: «No, no.» He added: «I don't think so unless he becomes officially appointed by Liverpool as an advisor.
»You do your job and you let other people do their jobs. I think organisations work well when that is the case. Everybody does what they are responsible for. At least you know when it doesn't work, who to speak to."
Wenger confirmed that this independent approach was how Arsenal operated when looking for his successor. When asked if he was involved in the discussions, he simply said: «No.»
