Ben White has broken his silence on social media after penning a new contract at the Emirates Stadium. The defender joined Arsenal from Brighton in July 2021 for £50million and he quickly became a regular in Mikel Arteta's starting lineup.
White helped the Gunners secure Europa League qualification in his debut campaign, predominantly featuring as a centre-half. Then, upon the return of William Saliba, who had spent the season prior on loan at Marseille, Arteta reshaped the England international as a right-back.
At first, White struggled to showcase his quality in the final-third but, soon enough, he began to finally relish his role as an all-encompassing full-back towards the end of the Premier League campaign. Last season, he managed two goals and five assists – this term, with 11 games to spare, he's already netted twice and provided four assists.
White has been rewarded for his efforts, penning a new long-term deal after months of negotiations. The former Leeds United ace has signed a contract which keeps him at London Colney until 2028 and includes an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months
Shortly after Arsenal announced his extension, White marked the occasion with a celebratory Instagram post. He wrote: «Couldn’t be more grateful. Home [red heart emoji].»
Martin Odegaard and William Saliba showed their appreciation in the comments section, posting a selection of heart and love-eye emojis. The duo, in addition to Bukayo Saka, have also recently committed their futures to Arsenal – and this was a huge incentive for White.
