Carney Chukwuemeka injury latest as Chelsea handed huge scare after West Ham defeat

Carney Chukwuemeka suffered an injury scare in Chelsea's 3-1 Premier League loss at West Ham United on Sunday. The midfielder was forced to come off late in the first half after a collision with Emerson Palmieri.

The Blues youngster retained his place in Mauricio Pochettino's midfield after his impressive performance in the opening weekend against Liverpool, partnering Enzo Fernandes and Conor Gallagher in midfield.

Chukwuemeka repaid his manager's faith with a well-taken finish to level the scoring in the first half, but the moment was short-lived. After attempting to win the ball in a 50/50 challenge against Emerson, ex-Aston Villa man Chukwuemeka seemed to sustain a knock to his knee.

He managed to continue playing before being forced to go down and receive treatment by club physios. Mykhailo Mudryk eventually replaced the 19-year-old, though he did not require a stretcher.

After the game, Pochettino provided a very brief update on the injury, saying: «Now we need to assess him, tomorrow. See what happened with his knee. It was really bad luck.»

However, there was further reason to be concerned when a video surfaced online via journalist Rahman Osman showing Chukwuemeka limping out of the London Stadium with crutches. Fortunately, there was no protective boot but the midfielder was walking gingerly.
