Chelsea appear to have taken a huge step towards completing the transfer of Elye Wahi from Montpellier. The 20-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge recently as the Blues look to stock up on some of the world's most exciting young players.
The west Londoners signed Omari Hutchinson, Cesare Casadei, Zak Sturge, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina last year, before securing the signatures of Mykhailo Mudryk, Andrey Santos and Malo Gusto in January. This summer, Chelsea have continued from where they left off, wrapping up deals for Dujuan Richards, Diego Moreira and Angelo Gabriel.
Wahi, who sees his contract at the Stade de la Mosson expire in 2025, featured 33 times for Montpellier in Ligue 1, scoring 19 goals and recording six assists. His impressive performances have reportedly courted the interest of Chelsea, who could be getting their hands on a striker who's just as good as Kylian Mbappe.
Following a fantastic campaign in the French top-flight, the France Under-21 international is now one of two players in the 40 years to have have scored 20 goals in Ligue 1 as a teenager – the other being Mbappe. In fact, according FourFourTwo, Wahi became the joint-youngest player to score ten goals in the competition alongside the Paris Saint-Germain forward and Ousmane Dembele, surpassing the likes of Thierry Henry and Karim Benzema.
With an incredible CV, Chelsea seem eager to wrap up a deal for the Montpellier star. According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are closing in on a deal to sign Wahi, who's then expected to join Strasbourg on loan.
