Chelsea will be without Thiago Silva for the trip to Manchester City on Saturday night after the defender was ruled out through injury by manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues were also dealt a blow as midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka suffered yet another setback himself.
«Minor injury [to Silva],» Pochettino said on Friday. «He's out for tomorrow. He's not available. Afterwards, we need to assess him.»
«Carney Chukwuemeka twisted his ankle two days and is out,» the Blues boss added. However, there was good news from the 51-year-old as both Malo Gusto and Levi Colwill were passed fit. The pair were both seen struggling against Crystal Palace in the second half and Gusto had to be taken off in the final ten minutes.
«They are okay. They have recovered well and are available tomorrow.» The same is true for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. He is available to play for the first time since mid-December.
Chelsea are already without Benoit Badiashile as the defender is set to miss four weeks through injury himself, football.london. It means the 22-year-old will be out for the Carabao Cup final and the knock to Silva makes him a doubt for the game as well.
The 39-year-old was taken off in the second half at Selhurst Park on Monday after sprinting back to block a shot. Silva has been a near ever-present for Chelsea since he arrived and this injury comes at a poor time for the Blues.
