After playing a starring role in Chelsea's 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night, defender Benoit Badiashile faces a late fitness test to make the trip to Crystal Palace with injury. The 22-year-old played 87 minutes in mid-week but was forced off late on after receiving treatment.
Moises Caicedo also went down in the closing stages and looked as if he would also be taken off. The Ecuadorian managed to finish the game, though, and nearly scored in the final minute.
There was no such luck for Badiashile. He is up against it to be involved in Chelsea's next match. «Badiashile we need to assess him and wait for the scan,» Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday. "[It's his] Groin. I hope it's not a big issue. We need to assess now and after we will know better."
His listed as, «undergoing medical assessment,» on the club's injury list. Meanwhile, Marc Cucurella, Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, and Lesley Ugochukwu are all described as, «continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme.» Robert Sanchez is back «in partial team training for reconditioning phase» of his recovery.
Badiashile has had his fair share of fitness problems this season and didn't make his first appearance until November 1. Since then he has been a regular in the side. More recently, he has been asked to deputise at left-back as cover for Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill, not a position he thrives in.
Pochettino chose to go with the old Monaco centre-back pairing at Villa Park, selecting Axel Disasi alongside Badiashile with Thiago Silva dropped to the bench. Colwill has been out himself in recent weeks with an injury picked up before the original fourth round tie with the Villans.
