Ian Wright says he felt 'quite sad' at the news that Jurgen Klopp will step down as manager and responded to accusations that he is a closet Liverpool fan.

Anfield played host to the first match since the German's announcement as the Reds took on Norwich City in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Arsenal icon has been open in his admiration for Liverpool and their successful manager, which has prompted claims that the 60-year-old supports the Reds.

Speaking before Liverpool's 5-2 FA Cup victory over the Canaries, Wright highlighted the work that Klopp has done over the nine years on Merseyside.

"Amazing for what he's come in and done, when they appointed him, they targeted him to bring Liverpool back to the head table," he began.

"It took him three years to get going, win his first trophy but he's done that and engraved himself into the Liverpool culture and won everything."

Wright took aim at the claims that he is a closest Liverpool fan, citing that he does support the club if he can't feel a degree of sadness, following the news of Klopp's departure at the end of the season.

He added: "It was a sad day, I was quite sad. People say I'm a closet Liverpool fan and if shock and sadness says I'm a closet (fan) then I am because I was quite sad to hear the news.
