I supported Arsenal as a kid and even got a Gunners tattoo but now Tottenham are scouting me
Tottenham are considering a transfer move for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, according to reports. But there is a small problem — he supported Arsenal as a boy.
The Denmark international grew up cheering for the Gunners and even got a tattoo of the Arsenal badge on his left arm! Hjulmand's love of Arsenal began when he was a boy, watching matches with his father, and his football idol is Patrick Vieira, the captain of the 2004 Invincibles.
Hjulmand once shared in an interview with Portuguese media outlet Record, saying: «My dad supported Arsenal and we watched games together when we were younger.» Yet, regardless of his fandom for Arsenal, the 24-year-old is also being carefully watched by Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham sent scouts to see Hjulmand play during a Portuguese Cup match against Benfica on Thursday which ended in a 2-1 victory for Sporting. Hjulmand, who completed a £15.4million move from Serie A side Lecce last summer, is already an established player under the guidance of manager Ruben Amorim.
If Hjulmand does move to Tottenham, he will not be the first man with Arsenal ties to play for the club. Sol Campbell infamously incited huge anger when he opted to leave Tottenham on a free transfer to Arsenal. William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor both went from red to white.
Tottenham could have a secret weapon in any talks to sign Hjulmand, if they follow through with their interest in the summer. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is an established part of Postecoglou's Spurs squad, although he has been linked with an exit in the past two transfer windows and could be surplus to requirements come the summer.
