Linfield boss David Healy admitted embarrassing skipper Jamie Mulgrew by singing his praises in the aftermath of the dramatic last-gasp win over Dungannon Swifts at Windsor Park.
The 37-year-old midfielder may have only been introduced at half-time, but he turned in an inspirational performance to help the Blues turn a 3-1 deficit into an incredible 4-3 victory courtesy of late strikes from Joel Cooper and Kirk Millar.
Healy used Mulgrew’s never-say-die attitude as an example, especially to the younger members of the squad, of what is expected when you pull on the famous blue jersey.
“Jamie was basically carrying a knock, he probably shouldn’t have been anywhere near the team... his limit was probably 45 minutes,” stressed Healy.
“But what a shift he put in when he came on. His drive and enthusiasm was key in helping us win the game.
“I probably embarrassed him in the dressing room after the game, telling the rest of the group that’s why Jamie has been at the football club for almost two decades.
“I wanted to highlight his winning personality and mentality and the way he demanded to drive the team forward when the chips were down. It was a great example to the rest of the group.
