Jarell Quansah reveals the main reason why he picked Liverpool over Man United and Man City as a child

Jarell Quansah has opened up on why he decided to join Liverpool as a child instead of one of the two Manchester clubs.

The 21-year-old is in the midst of a breakthrough season at Anfield after spending the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers.

The centre-back has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, rising to the occasion in the wake of severe injury problems for the Reds.

His arrival in the first team comes 16 years after he joined Liverpool from Woolston Rovers in his native Warrington at the age of five.

And he has revealed that United and City were options at the time but there was one main reason why he chose the Reds.

'I went around different places to see what was out there,' he told The Athletic. 'I did City, Manchester United, Wigan, Bolton… all of them.

'Back then, I was just playing and enjoying what I was doing. Any time I could play football, I was happy. My parents thought having more options would be better.

'I just remember Liverpool offering the best training. That was where I enjoyed my football the most and that's why I stayed.'

Reflecting on his rise in the current campaign, Quansah said: 'Coming into the season, it was more about the opportunity to train with the best players in the world and learn from them.'

He added: 'Last summer, I probably thought the plan would be to go out on loan again. But when I went on pre-season with the first team I just said to myself, 'You've got to give everything and show what you can do'.

'Thankfully, I did that, and I was able to kick on. I've learned already in football that it's a mad game and anything can happen.'
