Jose Mourinho chant against Newcastle could spell trouble for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea

Newcastle United's last visit to Stamford Bridge was a heartbreaker for the visitors, with the team just minutes away from the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Callum Wilson had put them in the lead, but a mistake from Kieran Trippier allowed Mykhailo Mudryk to equalise and take the game to penalties.

Trippier and Matt Ritchie then missed from the spot, ending Newcastle's Wembley dreams and keeping Chelsea on course for the final. Since then, Newcastle have bounced back, while Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is feeling the heat.

After losing the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool, Chelsea fans are unhappy. There's tension between Pochettino and Todd Boehly, and the team is languishing in 11th place in the Premier League — not much of an improvement on last season's 12th place finish under Frank Lampard.

During Chelsea's recent 2-2 draw with Brentford, some fans were heard chanting for Jose Mourinho to take over. This sets the stage for Monday night's match in west London, which will be televised live on Sky Sports.

When asked about losing fan support, Pochettino said last weekend: «If they want to listen, perfect. If not, what can I do? They'll keep booing. I'm giving my best to this team. But we cannot blame the fans. My message is: 'Okay, they need to show their frustration through who? I prefer to me rather than to the team. I prefer that, I am strong. I am sure that in time we will change the perception.

»I don't want the fans trying to blame the players. Players need to feel backed by the fans and, to be honest, I prefer that I get the blame and let the players be free on the pitch. I don't care. I am strong, I am 52 now."
