According to The Japan Times , Junya Itō (30) filed a lawsuit yesterday with the Osaka District Court seeking compensation from two women who have accused the Stade de Reims player and his trainer of sexual assault.
The incident was alleged to have happened last year while the player was on international duty with Japan. On the 1st of February, the two women contacted the Osaka police who began investigating the claims. However, Itō disputes this accusation and has now proceeded with a civil lawsuit that alleges the women made false accusations to the police.
Due to the loss of sponsors following the allegation, Itō will seek financial damages of 200 million yen (1.2 million euros), while his lawyer, Hirotaro Kato stated that “ it is extremely important to clear your name as quickly as possible, as a player’s career is short. ”
After the initial accusations emerged, Itō left the Japanese international side ahead of their quarterfinal against Iran in the AFC Asian Cup and returned to France. Reims at the time released an official statement addressing the alleged incident and expressing that “ at this stage and to date, the club shows solidarity with its player .”
