The Spanish national team is back to normal life after a turbulent few months with the departure of Luis Rubiales and internal restructuring. Albert Luque continues, also with Pedro Rocha, at the head of football management in the men's team. Speaking to 'AS', he wanted to convey the optimism he has for this year, as well as the confidence that Luis de la Fuente has in his plans. In fact, he made his renewal official.
"There is a lot of talk about his contract, but I, as the person in charge, can announce that Luis de la Fuente has been renewed until the end of the 2026 World Cup. We are delighted. It's easy to work with him and, in the end, he has earned it," said Albert Luque, referring to the current Spain coach.
He explained his arrival and the reason for Luis Enrique's departure: "The team had been playing a certain system for some time with Luis Enrique, moving the ball from flank to flank. He is a sensational coach, but perhaps we reached an extreme point of keeping possession. Luis de la Fuente made us understand that our DNA is to keep the ball and not lose it, but that we had to have a 'plan B".
The captains (Carvajal, Rodri, Morata and Jesus Navas), key in the transition: "Carvajal has taken a step forward. He is a leader and, at the moment, the best full-back in the world. Rodrigo should have won the Ballon d'Or, Morata is playing at a spectacular level and Navas looks like he's 18 years old. They are four incredible captains who make things a lot easier, they show the others how to work".
