Richard Keys fumes at decision 'killing' football after Chelsea defeat to Liverpool

Richard Keys has slammed the decision to disallow Virgil van Dijk's goal during Liverpool's Carabao Cup final win — claiming VAR is «killing the game».

The Liverpool captain found the back of the net in the second-half but Wataru Endo was adjudged to have been offside after interfering with play. Referee Chris Kavanagh, following the intervention of VAR, ruled that the Japan midfielder had illegally blocked Levi Colwill.

Van Dijk did get on the scoresheet in the 118th minute, heading the Reds to a 10th League Cup triumph, glancing home from Kostas Tsimikas' cross as the clock ticks on Jurgen Klopp's time in charge.

The game wasn't shy of taking points with Raheem Sterling's offside goal and Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo's tackle that forced Ryan Gravenberch off. Speaking as part of BeIN Sports coverage, Keys slammed the decision to chalk off the Dutchman's second-half header, he said: «It's gone too far, it really has gone too far. This 11 times out of 10 is a perfectly good goal.»

The Liverpool captain lauded his teammates after they fought injuries and adversity in their record-extending triumph. He said: «It means so much. All of the young boys, it's incredible, I'm so proud.

»It was an intense game from both sides, they had chances, we had chances, first trophy as a Liverpool captain — it's all for the fans, let's enjoy it.
