It was a misunderstanding that led to Richarlison telling Antonio Conte exactly what he thought of his tactics on the day of a Tottenham game last season.
The Brazilian admitted this week, along with compatriot Emerson Royal, that after turning up late for a gameday team meeting last season, he misunderstood what the then Spurs head coach meant when he asked if he had anything he wanted to say to the group. Instead of the apology Conte was looking for, Richarlison instead got plenty of his grievances with the way Tottenham were playing off his chest and in front of the shocked and then laughing squad.
«I came out saying everything that came to mind. 'I need more minutes', 'this formation is no good', 'I didn't adapt', 'this formation is (swears)' (repeats this in English),» said Richarlison in a chat with Brazilian YouTuber Fred on the Desimpedidos channel which is teasing a longer video to come this month.
«I started talking, then the guys behind started laughing and I said what am I doing here? I didn't understand what he had asked, I started saying what I had already rehearsed.»
