Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon has shared an emotional statement on social media after undergoing a second hamstring surgery in seven months.
The 23-year-old suffered more injury heartache last week when he pulled up just 35 minutes into his return during a Spurs Under 21s match.
Sessegnon has only featured once for Spurs this season, making his solitary appearance as a late substitute in their 1-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup third-round.
It is a killer blow for the defender who had surgery on his left hamstring during pre-season, and has suffered several setbacks during his rehabilitation.
Tottenham confirmed on Monday that he underwent surgery on his right hamstring with the full back expected to be on the sidelines for 10 to 12 weeks.
Sessegnon shared his disappointment on the injury via X, formerly Twitter, and is grateful for the support he has received.
He said: 'Gutted beyond belief. Just when I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, and thought I was back doing what I love, I've hit another setback.
'I’ve been down this road before. I’ll pick myself up, stay head strong and begin my recovery in the best way possible.
'Having been through an operation and the recovery on my other hamstring last year, and knowing how strong that hamstring is now, I know this is the best solution to put an end to the reoccurring issues.
'Thank you to those who have sent messages of support - I can't express how it feels. We're all human at the end of the day, and I'm devastated more than anyone to have a setback. I'll do everything I can to be back out on that pitch.
'Speaking on behalf of anyone who's been in this situation, please be careful what you say online. Words hurt & no-one chooses to be in this position.'
