Liverpool should consider bringing in Gareth Southgate to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager in the summer, according to a former England and Reds defender.
In January, the German boss announced he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season after nine years, sparking huge speculation over who could replace him on the touchline.
Southgate is tasked with leading the Three Lions during Euro 2024 in June and July, but the 53-year-old's future in the national team hot seat has always been undecided, and he could move onto a different job once the European Championships are over.
Former defender Glen Johnson, who made 200 appearances for Liverpool and earned 54 England caps, spoke about Southgate's future in a new interview.
Johnson told Betfred: 'It's an awkward one to talk about because you don't want to go into a major tournament speculating about whether England's manager is going elsewhere.'
On the Liverpool link, Johnson said: 'If he's available in the summer, then you've got to look at all the options. He's done a brilliant job with England, so there's no reason why he can't be successful with a club like Liverpool as he'd be dealing with a similar standard of players.
'You'd need to have the chat because you can't just dismiss him if he's available.'
With the Euros penned in for the 14th of June to the 10th of July, it would leave Liverpool, or any club, with limited time to utilise Southgate before pre-season really got going.
Southgate took England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, and the final of Euro 2020 three years ago, falling short in the showpiece to Italy after a penalty shoot-out.
