Plenty of the usual suspects make their way into the top 10 highest scorers in 2023-24, but there is also room for some surprise inclusions on the list.
We’re midway through the campaign and many of the usual suspects feature towards the top end of the goalscoring charts, although there are some surprise packages in place of high-profile absentees like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal.
We’ve taken a closer look at these sides and have ranked the 10 highest-scoring teams in Europe’s top five leagues in 2023-24.
Eddie Howe’s Magpies have endured a strange old season. They sit underwhelmingly in midtable and are out of the League Cup and Champions League, but they’ve beaten PSG, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa – and are among the top-scoring clubs in Europe.
Their 8-0 mauling of Sheffield United showed they can be a force to be reckoned with on their day, while they’ve also put four past Chelsea and Villa.
Enough positives to keep Howe safe for now, you’d reckon.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa look the real deal. The Spanish coach has been in charge of the club for over a year now, and over that period they’ve comfortably and consistently looked a top-four side.
This season they’ve struggled for clean sheets but demonstrated a canny knack for outscoring the opposition.
Last term was the worst full season of Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield but they’ve come roaring back in 2023-24. They sit top of the Premier League table, having suffered just one defeat, and remain in all three of the cup competitions.
Questions remain over Klopp’s best line-up, particularly in attack, but star man Mohamed Salah remains as potent as ever. It will be fascinating to see if their other forwards can continue to pick up
