Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has explained why he wants Mohamed Salah to remain on Merseyside rather than return to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah sustained a back injury during Egypt's second group game of the tournament against Ghana last week. The Reds star was substituted and is now set for a spell on the sidelines as he recovers from the injury.
The Egyptian FA and Liverpool confirmed over the weekend that Salah would return to Merseyside to continue the next stages of his rehabilitation from the injury. It was stated that Salah would make the trip after Egypt's final group game of AFCON against Cape Verde on Monday night.
The statement also said that Salah would return to feature for Egypt at the tournament once he has recovered from the injury at the semi-final stage - provided his country reaches that stage of the tournament. The semi-finals are due to take place on February 7, in a little over two weeks

Souness, who won 12 major trophies during his time at Anfield, has spoken about Salah's current injury situation. Souness has explained why he would prefer Salah to remain on Merseyside instead of rejoining the Egypt squad when he has returned to full fitness.
