Tottenham confirmed team vs Man City - James Maddison back on bench as Postecoglou makes change
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has made one change to his line-up as his team takes on holders Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday.
Despite all of their attacking talent, City have so far been unable to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since it opened in 2019. Pep Guardiola's side have lost on all five occasions since it opened its doors. The sides have already played out a goal-laden encounter this season at the Etihad Stadium with a 3-3 draw.
With Spurs' injury crisis finally subsiding, Postecoglou had more options ahead of the game to choose from than he has had in a long time. One of those is James Maddison, who has been back in training for the past week having missed more than two-and-a-half months of action due to an ankle injury suffered against Chelsea in November.
The England international returns to the bench and Ben Davies and Dane Scarlett also returned to Tottenham training just ahead of the game and are back among the substitutes while Dejan Kulusevski has got over the illness that kept him out of the 2-2 draw at Manchester United and starts.
The Swede returns to the deeper role in midfield which means Timo Werner, who grabbed an assist on his debut, and Brennan Johnson, who was not at his best at Old Trafford, both start either side of Richarlison. In the midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg gets the nod ahead of Oliver Skipp.
Giovani Lo Celso, Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Alejo Veliz are all still out injured and Son Heung-min, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma away at the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
