Tottenham suffer second major blow vs Nottingham Forest with Destiny Udogie out for Everton
Destiny Udogie will miss Tottenham's clash against Everton two days before Christmas after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season in the first half at Nottingham Forest on Friday. The Italian signed a new long-term deal earlier in the week but will now be a major miss for Ange Postecoglou.
Udogie is the second Spurs player to reach this mark already this term after Yves Bissouma missed his own game through suspension last month. It was the second major blow before half time at the City Ground.
Although Richarlison gave Postecoglou's side the lead shortly before the break he had already seen Brennan Johnson go off through injury earlier in the half. The Welsh forward went down with a head injury before being replaced by Oliver Skipp with a concussion substitution.
Udogie was able to continue, fortunately for Tottenham, but will now not be able to feature in an already makeshift defence when Everton visit north London next week. Udogie has already missed one game with suspension this season after he got two yellows in the space of half an hour during defeat against Chelsea.
The 21-year-old was judged to have fouled Ryan Yates as Forest looked to launch a quick counter and was then shown a yellow card by referee Andy Madley. Fans reacted badly to the decision, though, after Yates gestured to get Udogie booked and was left without punishment himself.
Under the new, stricter Premier League rules players are more often being shown cards for dissent and displays of poor sportspersonship.
