Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen has warned Xabi Alonso that it would be a "dangerous move" to take the manager's job at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he would be stepping down from his role at the end of the season. The German has been in charge at Liverpool since October 2015 and has won eight major trophies, most recently the Carabao Cup with a victory over Chelsea at Wembley.
Alonso is among those being assess by Fenway Sports Group to become Klopp's successor after thriving as manager at Bayer Leverkusen, with the German club currently 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and still unbeaten this season in all competitions.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with hiring Alonso as their next manager, with Thomas Tuchel departing the German giants at the end of the season. And now Owen has issued advice to Alonso should he decide on a new challenge this summer.
"It’s a big dilemma for Xabi Alonso," he told LuckyBlock.com. "Real Madrid is another possibility in the future but it looks like unless he stays at Leverkusen then it’s a straight fight between Liverpool and Bayern and you can see the pros and cons for both.
"He’s not been a manager long so I think the safer option is going to Bayern Munich. Although they’re not going to win the league this year because of him at Leverkusen, it’s almost guaranteeing a league title with Bayern winning eleven in a row before this season.
