For the first time in three months Tottenham finally look set to have a near first-choice XI available. Barring any late fitness problems ahead of the visit from Wolves on Saturday, it will be all hands to the pump for Ange Postecoglou.
Slowly in recent weeks the squad has been coming together. Starting with the return of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven last month, Spurs have built around the centre of the park. Timo Werner and Richarlison have alleviated the need to get too panicked over forward rotation whilst the gradual integration of international stars back from their travels has added extra impetus.
Now, Spurs are looking to make it back-to-back league wins for the first time in 2024. Postecoglou's men have remained unbeaten since the turn of the year in the league, it has been over six weeks since their last loss — the 4-2 horrorshow against Brighton — but that was without six of the possible starters that will take to the field on Saturday.
As a gap to Aston Villa appears and Manchester United stay adrift outside of the top five, Tottenham are still looking up the league rather than down it, at least in their eyes. There is just as much distance to third place Arsenal — level with Manchester City in second — as there is to sixth.
Spurs are closer to the top than they are to seventh. With a relatively kind fixture list until the start of April there is now a chance to cash in and to take advantage of their rivals all competing on at least two fronts with European football and domestic cups hitting a key juncture.
For Postecoglou, what is in his control is those that will be available for selection. Having worked in tough conditions throughout the winter he is now ready to reap the rewards.
