When the season finishes, Mikel Arteta will enter another crucial transfer window, and acquiring a midfield player is still one of his top goals.
The Gunners have been linked to a number of names lately, as many had anticipated that they would add a new enforcer during the January transfer window. But, the Gunners had always intended to buy a new top-draw midfield player in the summer, when they would also likely prefer to add a new striker, defender, and wide attacker.
Given that Thomas Partey has been dealing with injuries this season, Arteta will continue to believe that a new central midfield player is imperative.
The Ghanaian may depart with one year remaining on his contract as Arsenal look for a more reliable alternative. While other names are on their shortlist, Zubimendi is their first pick for the summer. The 25-year-old La Liga star was scouted by the Gunners over the weekend, and they may do so again as they step up their efforts to sign the Spaniard.
Everton’s Amadou Onana and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz are the other two midfielders on the shortlist of the Arsenal manager.
