Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin believes those at the club need to show patience with young winger Mykhailo Mudryk to avoid him becoming the Blues' next 'Kevin De Bruyne'.
It comes after the star's up-and-down start to his career with the Blues, having netted five goals in all competitions this season which — while an improvement over his zero goals across the second half of last season — have often also seen him become the source of frustrations around supporters due to his lack of end product combined with his large £65million price tag when he signed for Chelsea a year ago.
Despite that though, he has seen a marked improvement in recent weeks under manager Mauricio Pochettino, most importantly coming up with the late equaliser against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final which allowed the Blues to go through on penalties as well as their opener against Crystal Palace after Boxing Day.
The Blues' boss himself has previously highlighted the potential the star has, and believes that he can become a huge part of the club's future. He said last month: «He's a fantastic guy and he’s such a nice person. He’s very authentic and genuine.
»One thing I can tell you, he’s very honest and very trustworthy and a very genuine and spontaneous guy. I trust in him as a person, of course. And then as a player he knows he needs to keep improving.
«He’s still young and he is going to improve, because he has the quality. He’s a player that in his evolution is doing really well and we are so happy. For sure with time he’s going to be a very important player. He’s already an important player but he’s going to improve a lot because the potential is massive.»
