According to L’Équipe, Eintracht Frankfurt have submitted an offer for Stade Rennais forward Arnaud Kalimuendo (21). The Frenchman is seen as a replacement for Randal Kolo Muani, who departed for Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day in the summer.
Frankfurt’s offer for Kalimuendo is reportedly worth a little over €20m. The Bundesliga side have made the France U21 striker a priority signing this January.
The bid will certainly be considered by Rennes, who have experienced a poor start to the season. The club decided to sack Bruno Genesio and replace him with former manager Julien Stéphan. That change has not brought about the change in fortunes that was desired. Despite significant investment in successive windows, Rennes’ attack is a particular concern, with Kalimuendo not reproducing the form that he showed on loan at RC Lens since his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
Rennes are looking to recruit heavily in January, and the €20m fee could be reinvested across the pitch. The Breton club are also scouting out potential replacements for Kalimuendo, with an experience forward being prioritised.
Frankfurt are also interested in PSG’s Hugo Ekitiké, however, Kalimuendo is the priority, and their opening bid could receive a positive response.
