Ruslan Malinovskyi’s (30) stint at Olympique de Marseille looks like being a short one. The Ukrainian midfielder only joined the Ligue 1 side in January from Atalanta Bergamo on a six-month loan with a mandatory €10m purchase option.
The move was made permanent with Malinovskyi putting pen to paper over a three-year deal with Les Phocéens. However, the 30-year-old Ukraine international is set to return to the Italian top flight. According to a report this Thursday from Foot Mercato, Genoa and Marseille have found a total agreement over Malinovskyi’s move to I Rossoblù.
Both clubs have shaken hands over a loan move with a mandatory €11m purchase clause. However, the French outlet understands that Malinovskyi is yet to greenlight the deal as he reportedly favours a move to Monza or Bologna. The Ukrainian played 23 games with Marseille, registering two goals and one assist. Malinovskyi was deemed surplus to requirements after Marseille signed Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr – Amine Harit’s return after a long injury also played a part. Les Phocéens need to raise funds following the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
