Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Chelsea's and Tottenham's lack of European football this season is a 'massive advantage' over their Premier League rivals contending for a top four spot. The Reds secured Europa League football last term, whilst the Blues and Spurs finished outside the European qualification spots in the Premier League.
Despite missing out on European football, Chelsea and Tottenham both invested heavily into their squads with new signings during the summer. Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to pick up good results so far this term, whilst Ange Postecoglou's side remain unbeaten after six fixtures.
The Blues have been hampered by a number of injuries to key players such as Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Wesley Fofana. Ben Chilwell became the latest player to suffer a significant injury problem and is set to be ruled out until the end of October.
Despite problems for Chelsea on and off the pitch, Klopp feels that Pochettino's team, along with Spurs, have a huge advantage in the race for the top four this season. «Chelsea and Tottenham have no European football,» Klopp said on Friday ahead of Liverpool’s match against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
«Two heavyweights not in European football, they have the whole week to train when others travel. It’s a massive advantage.
