Mauricio Pochettino continues to have his Chelsea squad plagued by injuries, however some returns could be on the horizon. Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella and Thiago Silva were all back in the matchday squad for the 2-2 Premier League draw against Chelsea, however none of the trio featured.
Despite three names being removed from the club's injury list, Pochettino still has seven players out with potential long-term issues. While Cucurella and Silva were the defensive duo to return, Benoit Badiashile is still out after suffering a groin injury in the FA Cup win against Aston Villa, although he is expected back this month.
With Chelsea not back in action until next Monday evening against Newcastle, Pochettino will be hoping the extra days off will see more players return. The Blues have struggled to cope because of injuries with Pochettino particularly struggling for options in midfield and that was evidenced by Enzo Fernandez being subbed off mid-way through the second half, despite Chelsea being in search of a goal.
«We don't have the possibility to refresh the players in a key area,» he admitted in a press conference. «After six days, we competed in three really tough games. I think the effort was massive. It was difficult in the second-half to keep the same energy. I think that was important in the game.»
Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka are the midfielders currently missing through injury, with a return for any members of the trio anytime soon looking unlikely. Elsewhere, Reece James continues to recover from a plaguing hamstring problem, which he had surgery to fix back in December.
