Danns delivers again
Only three things are certain in life. Death, taxes and Jayden Danns scoring for Liverpool’s youth teams.
The 17-year-old marked his full Under-21s debut with a goal away at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Back with the Under-18s on Saturday, he capped off an astonishing victory for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side against Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup.
Stationed as a number 10 rather than number nine on this occasion, he took no time at all to turn creator against the Gunners. It was his lay-off that set up Lewis Koumas for the opener.
Yet after the break, with the young Reds now 4-1 to the good, Danns wanted to get in on the act.

Pouncing on a defensive mix-up, with goalkeeper Noah Cooper way out of goal, he side-footed home into an unguarded net from all of 40-yards to continue his astonishing vein of form in attack this season. But his second was even better. When captain Josh Davidson was fouled on the edge of the box, it was Danns who stepped up to curl a superb 25-yard free-kick into the top corner. Cooper never stood a chance.
Son of former Premier League midfielder Neil Danns, the 17-year-old now has 19 competitive goals for the Under-21s and Under-18s this season. If not for Cooper, he would have wracked up his 20th against the Gunners.
Combining well with Kieran Morrison, the shot-stopper got down low to deny the striker a hat-trick goal late on. But by this point, the damage had long been done with Liverpool already assured of their place in the FA Youth Cup fifth round.
