West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten has revealed he has not been contacted by Liverpool about becoming their new sporting director - but has hinted he would be open to the opportunity.
Steidten has emerged as one of the leading contenders to replace Jorg Schmadtke, who left the role at Anfield at the end of last month after a short-term stay following the surprise exit of Julian Ward last summer.
The 44-year-old was only appointed at West Ham in the summer, where he has already impressed with a number of signings including the capture of Mohammed Kudus from Ajax. However, there have been suggestions Steidten doesn't have a perfect working relationship with Hammers boss David Moyes.

Steidten had previously worked at Bayer Leverkusen where he recruited players such as Moussa Diaby, Jeremie Frimpong and Piero Hincapie, who have been integral in Leverkusen's ongoing outstanding season. He was also influential in bringing Xabi Alonso to the Bundesliga club, with the Spaniard now the strong favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss in the summer.
And while continuing his work at West Ham, Steidten has fallen short of reaffirming his long-term future with the Londoners.
“I've heard that I am supposed to be on the list at Liverpool," said Steidten to Sky Sports Deutschland. "It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it's an honour. But so far nobody from Liverpool has contacted me.
