New Premier League FFP claim made with possible loophole as Arsenal and Chelsea await outcome

The new dawn of the Premier League's financial fair play era looks set to continue. Less than two weeks after Everton's initial 10-point deduction was reduced to four following an appeal, the latest set of potential punishments has been revealed.

Still, with Nottingham Forest's profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs) charge to be dealt with — plus the almost certain appeal that comes with it — as well as the second case for the Toffees, there is plenty going on. In the background remain Manchester City's 115 charges, the potential for Chelsea to be sanctioned for historic wrongdoings, and other sides walking a tightrope.

However, much like Forest last season, the threat to newly promoted sides also remains. While Luton and Burnley have faced no issues — their lack of spending playing a large part in that compared to Forest's gung-ho approach to coming up in 2022, Leicester City might not be so fortunate.

According to The Sun, they will be facing immediate questions from clubs across the English pyramid. It is claimed that top-tier and second-division sides are already turning their attention to losses made by the Foxes, with a suspicion that rules have already been breached.

The report says that some teams believe the 2016 league champions have gone over the £105million loss-making limit across a three-year period as their stay in the top-flight came to an end last season. At the time, it was only Everton who were charged by the league for such wrongdoings.

Championship teams have a lower threshold of £83million. There is a chance, though, that gaining promotion could provide a possible loophole to this.
