Nicolas Jackson has sent a defiant Chelsea message following his eighth goal of the season in the 2-0 Premier League win against Sheffield United. The Senegal international has faced significant criticism since his transfer from Villarreal in the summer despite the Blues' interest in Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
Christopher Nkunku also made a permanent move to Stamford Bridge but saw his Blues career get off to the worst possible start after he picked up a knee injury in pre-season. As a result, with Armando Broja still recovering from a long-term knee issue, the pressure was firmly on Jackson to find the goals.
In the opening few weeks, Jackson showed signs of promise with his first goal coming in the 3-0 win against Luton Town. However, yellow cards were a regular occurrence for the striker with five picked up in the first six games which saw him miss the seventh game of the season against Fulham.
But, with Chelsea's results somewhat improving, Jackson has been able to score more goals with six arriving after his one-match ban in October. When asked about his mixed start to life at Chelsea, Jackson offered a clear answer while revealing a message from Pochettino.
“It’s just people who don’t know football, I will just continue to play more games and score more goals for the team," he said. «It’s ok my first season, it’s not what I was going for, though it’s my first season so I’m happy — although everyone is talking s***.»
