Pablo Longoria has reaffirmed his commitment to remaining president of Olympique de Marseille amidst rumours of a potential departure.
Longoria’s position as president has not always been assured. Earlier this season, following threats from OM’s fans during an incendiary meeting back in September, Longoria temporarily stepped back from his role. The executive was thought to be considering his future at the Ligue 1 club, and after reflection, he ultimately chose to remain.
His future has been called into question again in recent days but for different reasons. Les Phocéens are currently stagnating in 9th place in Ligue 1. Following the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset as manager on Tuesday, OM are now on their fourth manager of the season. The finger is being pointed somewhat at Longoria for this season’s failures, as well as the chronic instability that has defined the club.
However, Longoria has sought to reaffirm his commitment to the club. “Will I be here in the future? Yes. I want to be here. Lots of people are talking about me […] I realise that lots of people talk about my name but don’t know me,” said Longoria, who admitted to having made errors since taking over the club in 2021, but who has vowed to learn from them.
