Sir Jim Ratcliffe steps up Man Utd transfer plan to secure first summer signing
Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Juventus defender Gleison Bremer ahead of a summer bid.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now in charge of United's football operations following his purchase of a minority stake in the club and this summer's transfer window gives him an opportunity to make his mark.
There has already been widespread change behind the scenes with Omar Berrada joining from rivals Manchester City to become United's new CEO, while Dan Ashworth is close to becoming their new sporting director.
And United are now turning their attention to player recruitment, with Italian outlet Calciomercato reporting that they have 'intensified contacts' with Bremer in an attempt to get the jump on their rivals.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham have also been linked with the 27-year-old, but the report states that United have 'no problems' paying his release clause which has been reported as somewhere between £43m-£49million.
The news comes after Ratcliffe revealed that he wants to avoid "spending a lot of money on a couple of great players". In an appearance on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast, Ratcliffe was asked about the potential of signing players like Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham.
"He's a great footballer, but it's not where our focus is," Ratcliffe replied. "The solution is not to spend a lot of money on a couple of great players. They've done that if you look at the last 10 years.
"The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes in the organising of the club. Then make can get recruitment right. It's such a vital part of a football club today, getting recruitment right. Which is finding new players.
