Ange Postecoglou wasn't a happy man for several reasons after Yves Bissouma was sent off for Tottenham, putting their two goal lead at Nottingham Forest in danger momentarily on Friday. The Mali international saw red for a late and high challenge on Ryan Yates in the second half just minutes after Dejan Kulusevski had doubled Spurs' advantage.
Heroics from Guglielmo Vicario in goal and some wayward finishing from the Forest forwards meant that a first clean sheet in eight games was secured. The result also helps to put the recent five game winless run firmly behind Tottenham as they push on towards a possible title fight yet again.
However, with a team full of injuries, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher didn't hold back in a scathing assessment of some of Tottenham's stars despite the win. «We've not seen these for years, these types of challenges,» Neville said of Bissouma's foul.
«These have got to stop. It's a straight red, banned for three games, and absolutely, I've got no sympathy whatsoever. They don't exist anymore [these challenges]. They were outlawed 10 or 15 years ago! They seem to have come back in in this last month or two.»
For Tottenham it is their fourth red card of the season. Bissouma himself has another to his name, being dismissed against Luton in the 1-0 away win for two yellows in the space of just minutes. Bissouma has also played out a suspension due to reaching the yellow card threshold too.
For his second red of the campaign, just 17 games in, he will now miss four games and also has to sit out most of January due to commitments at the African Cup of Nations as well. Joining Bissouma on the sidelines for the visit of Everton two days before Christmas is Destiny Udogie.
