Castlewellan Town boss John Young says it’s his privilege to manage what might just be Northern Ireland’s most prolific football team right now.
The free-scoring Amateur League men are in the midst of a 12-game winning streak following on from an opening day defeat to Kelvin at the beginning of September.
But equally as impressive is the emphatic nature of so many of those victories – an 8-0 here, a 19-0 there, with six of their last eight wins coming with five goals or more.
In fact, over the course of the season, Young’s side have found the net some 81 times, an average of almost seven per outing.
Admittedly, there’s been some mismatches in the cups, but as the old saying goes, you can only beat what’s in front of you, and spearheaded by former Portadown forward Ruairi Croskery, already with more than 30 to his name this season, Castlewellan Town are in electric form.
“There are goals coming from everywhere,” Young told the Belfast Telegraph.
"We’ve only played four league games and lost the first one, but that was the same weekend the (GAA) Championship was on.
"If you look at Comet, I think we have maybe two starters from that team, maybe three, that would start in the team now, it was just a tough week for us as the Championship clashed.
"Thankfully, there hasn’t been a big overlap of the two, as Castlewellan exited the Championship so all the players are back with us now.”
If that’s one of the big drawbacks for many teams down around the Mourne area, there are upsides too.
"They are a good bunch of lads and obviously with playing gaelic, they are naturally very fit,” added
