Tonight represents the latest edition of the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year, which sees standout performers recognised for their efforts over the course of the past 12 months.
The six nominees for this year's award are England cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, women's footballer Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, Liverpool-born athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy.
The winner of this coveted prize is expected to be announced shortly before 9pm, the show itself starting ay 7pm, with other categories to be recognised during the evening being as follows:
The Lifetime Achievement award has already been given to Dalglish, who had this to say of claiming this accolade: "Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is truly an honour. I have always believed in the importance of team success, and I wouldn't be where I am today without all of the players I've played with, the people I've worked for, and the supporters that stood by me, so this is for them."
