Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia both snubbed Liverpool in favour of Chelsea this summer, and the Blues' media team certainly saw the funny side
It's believed that Joe Shields was a 'prominent figure' behind the scenes in talks with Lavia's entourage. The Blues' co-director of recruitment and talent, who was once the head of senior recruitment at St Mary's, established a strong relationship with the teenager during their time together on the south coast.
After hijacking not just one, but two of Liverpool's bids this summer, the Chelsea media team certainly saw the funny side and aimed three cheeky digs at their Premier League rivals. On the Fifth Stand app, a section from the club statement read: "There were clearly no shortage of suitors for Lavia, who has already made his senior Belgium debut. Just like Moises Caicedo a few days ago, Lavia’s choice, in the end, was Chelsea."
Then, in a graphic showcasing Lavia's time at Southampton, two editorial decisions caught the eye of Chelsea fans on social media. The first of which being an image of the Belgian dispossessing Mohamed Salah at Anfield and the second being a void train ticket to Liverpool.
