Enzo Fernandez silenced any claims that he wanted to leave Chelsea on Wednesday night after scoring a brilliant free-kick in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.
The midfielder scored to put Mauricio Pochettino 3-0 up in the second round of the Blues' FA Cup fourth round replay. Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson had got the first two goals to put Chelsea in command before Fernandez all but made sure of the win.
Fernandez struck his free-kick into the top corner before wheeling away to celebrate in front of the travelling supporters. Having immediately removed his shirt and held it up towards the Chelsea supporters, the 23-year-old also pointed at himself and the ground to insinuate he is staying put.
It comes after the World Cup winner was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent days, only 12 months after joining from Benfica. However, his agent, Uriel Perez, dismissed the rumour by insisting the midfielder «has no intention of leaving».
He told AS: «The leaders were very clear with this project. It is a plan that was going to be difficult at the beginning because new and young players were going to arrive, but when the pieces of the team fit together well, Chelsea was going to move forward.»
Fernandez's celebration at Villa Park has left many of the Chelsea supporters relieved that their midfield maestro isn't going anywhere any time soon. However, it may not be as it seemed.
