Chelsea's £173m transfer plan impacts the future of five Pochettino players

Chelsea have been active in the transfer window but could still see more sales as they look to shape their squad in Mauricio Pochettino's image before the end of the month

It's been a big summer in the transfer window for Chelsea. It wouldn't be overstating things to describe it as transformative with the make-up of the Blues' squad being vastly different to what it did against Newcastle at the end of May.

The centre of midfield in particular has been rebuilt. N'Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic have all departed, while Andrey Santos has joined up with the squad for the first time this summer, while Lesley Ugochukwu and Moises Caicedo have been signed already to plug the gaps The Blues have further agreed a deal with Southampton to land 19-year-old Rome Lavia that could rise to £58million.

Mauricio Pochhettino noted following Chelsea's draw with Liverpool, that his side would strengthen before the end of the window.

"We need good players, yes," he said. "We need to improve the squad, yes. But that is not new. We are working very hard, I am so happy in the way that we are working with Laurence and Paul and the owners. For sure we are going to improve the squad. It is about finding the right profile, the right player to create a combination maybe where we are more solid.

The club has delivered upon one of their priorities by adding to their midfield this summer. They have provided Pochettino with Premier League experience to reinforce the middle of the pitch, and from being short in the depart, Chelsea now have a number of candidates for the position
