Paul Merson has seemingly doubled down on his Tottenham U-turn with another huge prediction ahead of Spurs facing Liverpool. The former Arsenal man tipped his old club to comfortably beat their rivals in the North London Derby last weekend, but he was left rather embarrassed as Ange Postecoglou's side deservedly took a point away from Emirates Stadium.
To Merson's credit following the game, his stance on Tottenham changed significantly as he labelled Tottenham 'outstanding'. In his Premier League column for Sky Sports, he wrote «The first 35 minutes against Arsenal, I thought Spurs were pretty disappointing. I thought it was no different to watching Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho's Spurs. If Gabriel Jesus scores for 2-0 then it's a completely different story. But he misses an absolute sitter.
»What I liked about Tottenham after that is they kept on playing the way they like playing and I was so impressed with them. I thought Arsenal would win easily. But for Spurs to come from 1-0 down and 2-1 down — normally they would lie down and get beat. Credit where credit is due. I thought they were outstanding and I now see them being around the top four."
Ahead of another major test for Spurs against Liverpool, Merson has once again provided his predictions. «This is a good game where anyone could win, but I'm going for a 2-2 draw. If I had to pick a winner, I'd pick Spurs,» he said. While for his official score, Merson has backed a stalemate, suggesting Spurs as winners over Liverpool is a massive statement considering his claims from the previous week.
The fact Tottenham haven't beaten Liverpool since 2017 with the Reds also remaining as the only Premier League team not to lose at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, also makesRead on football.london
