The Professional Game Match Officials Limited have confirmed they have made two immediate changes to VAR after the controversy involving Liverpool.
Referees' body, PGMOL, took the unusual step on Tuesday night of releasing the full audio from the VAR hub relating to the Luis Diaz goal that was incorrectly disallowed during Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Spurs on Saturday night.
Liverpool made a formal request to PGMOL for the audio on Monday and asked to hear the conversations that took place. The ECHO also understands PGMOL chief Howard Webb reached out to the club to offer an apology for the disallowed goal after the final whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And now, in a further statement released at the same time the audio became public, the PGMOL have confirmed that a new VAR communication protocol will be developed to enhance the clarity of communication between the referee and the VAR team in relation to on-field decisions, and VAR will confirm the outcome of the VAR check process with the AVAR before confirming the final decision to the on-field officials.
