As PSG continued their quest to win a competition they had not won since 2021, Les Parisiens travelled to the Stade de la Source to face third-division US Orléans with hopes of qualifying for the Round of 16.
Marco Asensio almost gave PSG an early lead with a free kick from close range but Matimbou in the Orléans goal did well to tip his shot around the post. As one would expect due to the divisional gap between the two sides, Paris began to take control of the game from minute one and dominate possession with Orléans hoping to hurt them with any opportunities on the counter.
It didn’t take long for PSG to make their dominance count as Kylian Mbappé swept the ball home in the 15th minute following several deflections which saw the ball land kindly to Kolo-Muani. The France forward aided the ball to his national team captain to slot into the bottom corner.
Despite having the lion’s share of possession, Mbappé’s 15th-minute strike was the solitary goal in the first half as PSG led by one goal at the break. In the opening stages of the second half, Paris continued to be on the front foot but failed to create any clearcut chances.
In the 61st minute, PSG were awarded a penalty as Mbappé’s deflected cross was handled by Solvet. The 25-year-old made no mistake from the spot as he dispatched the ball to the left to double Les Parisiens’ lead. A superbly taken spot-kick.
Ten minutes later, Ramos made it three and Mbappé was involved once again. The France international found space on the left flank to float a ball to the back post towards Ramos who headed home with relative ease from close range to give Paris a three-goal lead.
Orléans had their say on proceedings with less than four minutes of regulation time to play. Saint-Ruf
