When Toulouse visit Anfield this evening there will be plenty of obvious links between the French side and Liverpool.
The most prominent link, and the one that has garnered much attention in the build up to the game against the Ligue 1 side, is the return of former Liverpool transfer chief Damien Comolli, now chairman of Toulouse and spearheading the resurgence of the club.
Having taken in spells at Tottenham Hotspur and Saint Etienne prior, Comolli arrived at Liverpool to take up the role of director of football strategy in November 2010, one of the first major behind the scenes hires of the new owners Fenway Sports Group.
The Frenchman became director of football in March the following year, playing a major role in signing what would end up being his most lauded addition, Jordan Henderson. Other Comolli signings, such as Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll, failed to ignite in the way that had been hoped for. His impact was felt far longer, though, with Comolli the man that hired both Michael Edwards and Ian Graham, two figures who would prove pivotal in shaping the strategy and returning Liverpool to the summit of world football once again.

Comolli left Liverpool by mutual consent in April 2012, with FSG seeking a different direction with regards to their transfer strategy at the club. Following his departure from Anfield, Comolli spent time in an advisory capacity in football before a spell at Fenerbache paved the way for his arrival at Toulouse, and the beginning of the second significant link between the two clubs.
